A cheaper and more sustainable solution is needed to combat the high-cost Lithium-ion batteries in the market today.

Founded by a team of professors in London, Element30 is designing cutting-edge zinc-ion batteries built on years of research and experience. Without the need for toxic solvents or air-free processing, zinc-ion batteries are simple, safe and easy to manufacture. Element30 is being built in partnership with Prosemino, a leading electrochemical technology venture builder, in their lab in London.

Zn-Ion Batteries

Zn-ion batteries are essential for the net-zero transition Zn-ion batteries make use of zinc rather than lithium, making them safe, cost-effective and sustainable. Compared to conventional Li-ion batteries, Zn-ion batteries boast extended operating temperature ranges, longer calendar life, and a lower cost per kilowatt hour.

Applications

Zn-ion batteries have a wide range of uses. By replacing lithium with zinc, these batteries eliminate the need for rare metals and flammable solvents, instead using aqueous solutions. This ensures that they are safe, scalable and easily recycled.

Transport
Transport

Zn-ion batteries are being used as an alternative for traffic-signalling systems such as LED traffic signals/signs. Where power outages and short shelf lives of can lead to serious accidents, Zn-ion are in demand, being the more reliable option with a battery longer shelf life.

Buildings & Homes
Buildings & Homes

Zn-ion batteries can be used in buildings and homes due to their energy storage capabilities. They can provide extended back up power during outages, charged via grids or solar panels - by providing power during long periods without sun or wind.

Microgrids
Microgrids

Renewable energy and battery storage is becoming increasingly important for producing electricity especially for rural areas. Zn-ion batteries can compensate for lack of sunlight and wind.

Aerospace/Defense
Aerospace/Defense

Lithium batteries are not suited for aviation and marine applications due to flammability therefore Zn-ion batteries would meet the safety requirement; non-flammable and non-toxic.

Core Advantages

High energy density

0Wh/kg

Lithium batteries have high energy density but at much higher cost

High volumetric capacity

0mAh/cm3

This is ~2.5 times higher than that of Li-ion batteries

High power density

<0kW/kg

Lithium batteries are at 0.16-0.34 kW/kg

Average battery life

0 years

25+% more than lithium batteries

Low cost

<$0/kWh

Lithium batteries are >$100/kWh

Wide operating temperature

0°C

Zn batteries can operate over a range of -60°C to 70°C, better than most other batteries.

Our Story
